The kitchen at Dùthchas forms part of a new brick and glass extension designed by award-winning architects Brown & Brown. Working from their original layout, we collaborated with the client to develop the function, detailing, and material specification, before building everything from scratch in our Glasgow workshop.
The minimal design sits precisely within the geometric plan, framed by long strip windows and full-height glazing that flood light into the space. A simple palette of American cherry, hand-cast concrete, and micro-cement flooring brings warmth and texture, while views out to the Kolumba bricks by Petersen Tegl tie the interior tones to the wider architecture.
Along the wall connecting the extension to the original Victorian house, a full-height, seven metre long run of cabinetry features a mix of open and closed storage for books, files, artwork, letters, and personal objects, along with a hidden self-closing door providing access to the pantry.

The cherry cabinetry is paired with Salice push-to-open hardware and runners to maintain a clean, handleless finish on the 22mm extra thick doors and drawer fronts. A central island houses a Miele induction hob and a compact breakfast overhang.
The cast concrete worktop - made in Glasgow by Charles Myatt - runs seamlessly through a large sliding window to meet a second, fully concrete outdoor kitchen, equipped with a wok burner, gas grill, and Kamado smoker.
The main L-shaped run includes four 800mm-wide double-drawer units running from the oven stack, most with internal drawers and bespoke inserts for utensils and cutlery, to suit the clients’ needs. Additional drawers, an integrated bin and dishwasher, and a bold metre-wide sink with industrial tap ware complete the space.
